Newsstand, 1979. Oil on canvas, 34 x 50 inches.
Private Collection.
During the 1970s my figure compositions were painted from life. I also brought bundles of newspapers into my studio to paint them from life too in order to achieve a stronger feeling of form and texture. Unfortunately, city newsstands are beginning to vanish as computers eliminate printed matter. People gathered around newsstands, stopping off for the newspaper, catching up with the news or a quick chat.
